CONSULTING services for commercial returns and operation of assets and facilities for a public bus system
This project revolved around providing consulting services to maximise commercial returns and enhance the operation of assets and facilities for a public bus system. The ultimate goal was to maximise the revenue collected from future commercial assets, paving the way for the bus system’s financial self-sustainability.
Six principal revenue streams were identified: Real Estate (Transit-Oriented Development and Retail), Smart Retail, Out of Home (OOH) Advertising, Sponsorship & Naming Rights, Telecoms & Wi-Fi, and Other Commercial Drivers. Each stream required a tailored strategy, considering the specific dynamics of the public transportation sector and the local market conditions.
For real estate, we proposed strategies for transit-oriented developments (TOD) and retail spaces within and around bus stations. Smart retail initiatives were developed to enhance passenger experience and generate revenue through the sale of products and services tailored to the needs of bus passengers. In terms of advertising, we designed an OOH advertising strategy that leveraged the bus system’s assets for maximum visibility.
Sponsorship and naming rights were explored as a means to attract corporate partners, offering them a platform for high-visibility branding. We also proposed solutions for telecoms and Wi-Fi services to be offered across the bus system, monetising connectivity services to passengers. Finally, we explored various other commercial drivers that could be exploited for additional revenue.
This case study presents an in-depth exploration of the project, outlining the strategic approaches taken, the challenges encountered, and the outcomes achieved. It offers insights into the process of maximising commercial returns from public transportation assets and facilities, demonstrating the potential for such assets to drive self-sustainability.
